In may of 200X, Black Mesa experimented with a crystal that would bring forth a resonance cascade, causing flora and fauna from a borderworld known as «Xen». Portal storms would rip open and this Xen flora and fauna would spread all over the planet we call Earth. Meanwhile, an interdimensional empire known as the «Combine» saw these portal storms and took advantage of them, invading Earth and crushing their forces in a mere 7 hours. Humanity would only be «saved» by Wallace Breen, who negotiated with the Combine, bringing Earth under an administrative district of the Combine.
