Loraine James Makes Glitchy, Clicks and Cuts-Inspired Track from Scratch

Аватар автора
London-based producer Loraine James - aka Whatever Weather - is self-identified IDM fan, and part of wave of producers putting modern, fresh spin on detailed, textural sounds of late 1990s electronic music. Following two excursions into more ambient side of her sound as Whatever Weather, this month sees James return with new album under her own name, Detached From Rest of You, released on Hyperdub. Jokingly described as an 'IDM popstar record', album draws on influences from early 2000s 'clicks & cuts' records, as well as incorporating vocals from both James herself and collaborators including Tirzah and Low's Alan Sparhawk. Ahead of release, we sat down with Loraine James to watch her create track idea on-fly, using resampled drums, effects pedals and warm ambient melodies.
