Union Pacific Trains - Mile Post 543.47 - Harriman water tower

This video in our just passing trains series, is focused on the Union Pacific – mile post 543.47, on track 3 also known as the Harriman Line completed on May 12, 1953, which is south of the main line tracks 1 and 2, providing locomotives with an easier and lesser grade, but 10 miles longer being a 42 ½-mile route. The line runs from Speer to just east of Dale Creek. Track 3 is primarily used for westbound trains with its grade of up to 0.8.2 percent, much less than the 1.5 percent grades on tracks 1 and 2. The Number 3 track passed through the town of Harriman, Wyoming, named for 1950’s UP Board Chairman and son of E.H. Harriman. At one time there was multiple company housing at this location. The old steam era water tank still stands in the background from the days challengers and big boys reigned this demanding territory. We observed a slower moving westbound train pull off on the siding allowing the faster moving westbound train to continue and pass by. We happened to catch 3 westbound trains.
