America’s Dirty Little Secret - The Enewetak Atoll - Nuclear Testing, The Tomb, Runit Island.

Located in a remote area of the Pacific Ocean on Enewetak Atoll is where you’ll find the Runit Dome – also known as The Cactus Tomb or locally as just The Tomb. The Tomb is visible on Goggle Maps. In the 10 year period between 1948-1958, 42 atomic tests (including 2 no yields) were tested on the Enewetak Atoll, some of the bigger tests destroyed whole islands and their scars can still be seen to this day (the dark blue circles in Google satellite imagery).
