June 23 is the annual International Olympic Day celebrated around the world. Previously, it was, of course, a holiday — a symbol of unity, striving for excellence, fair sports competition and respect for the values that underlie the Olympic movement. Its history dates back to 1894. Then, on June 23, the founder of the modern Olympic movement, Frenchman Pierre de Coubertin, announced the creation of the International Olympic Committee.
