Summer at home can be a great opportunity to have fun with your children while they continue to learn. We at the Aurora Public Schools Welcome Center want to offer ideas for activities to help your children have a fun and productive summer. -Read books and stories together. Have your children read you a story. If nobody wants to do the reading, you can listen to audiobooks from youtube or the Aurora Public Library website. And tell your own stories. Children benefit from hearing stories from their personal and cultural heritage. -Use Your Imagination: Children benefit from getting creative pretending to be their favorite people, going on an adventure, or doing a job. -Learn a new skill or hobby: This is a great way for children to continue learning over the summer while developing their skills. -Have a family game night. Many board and card games will help students continue using basic math skills during the summer. -Work on household projects and chores together. Working together will help your children learn responsibility and build skills. They can help plan and cook a meal. Make sure their plan is safe and within their abilities. -Help your children make arts and crafts. Give them ideas for what to paint and draw, or let them use their imagination. You can also use sidewalk chalk to make art outside. -Help your children create their own writing boxes with paper and writing utensils. Make a map or model of your neighborhood from memory.
