Early Modern English is also sometimes referred to as Renaissance English, the Elizabethan Era, or the Age of Shakespeare. During this period a lot of things happened: the Great Vowel Shift made the language look almost like today English, thanks to the printing press that was introduced in 1476 lots of books were published, therefore literacy rose incredibly! The King James Bible was published and many expressions from this Bible we're still using. Shakespeare played without any doubt a crucial role in the development of this period, adding to English about 2000 new words and neologisms! Watch the whole video and you'll discover a lot!
