Abby Richter is a successful producer of a morning television show in Sacramento, used to keeping everything under control: work, schedules, relationships, and her own ideas about the perfect man. But the program’s ratings are falling, and management brings in Mike Chadway — a crude, self-confident host with a cynical view of love, who reduces romance to a set of harsh and provocative rules. Abby is outraged by his manners, but is forced to work with him, and soon even accept his help when an attractive neighbor, Colin, appears nearby. Their constant arguments, awkward advice, and mutual irritation gradually shift their familiar roles: behind Mike’s showy cynicism, vulnerability begins to emerge, while Abby starts to understand that a perfect relationship plan does not always match real feeling. Robert Luketic’s romantic comedy is built on clashing personalities, sharp dialogue, and the classic game of attraction between people who are far too certain they know the truth about love.
