Madrid Metro, Spain / Metro de Madrid - Line 1 (Antón Martín - Gran Vía)

Line 1 was the first metro line in Madrid and in Spain, opening in 1919 between Cuatro Caminos and Puerta del Sol. The line was extended from Sol to Atocha in 1921 and has been extended several times since. Platforms were extended from 60 to 90 metres in the 1960s to facilitate longer trains to tackle congestion.
