The Scottish capital Edinburgh is one of the UK’s best loved and most intriguing cities. Follow the Royal Mile up to brooding Edinburgh Castle, which served as the home of Scottish royalty for several centuries (and as their imposing line of defence against various invading armies). The castle is now one of Edinburgh’s most popular attractions and there are endless chapters of its history to explore. Don’t miss the firing of the one o’clock gun (at, yes, 1pm). Ships in the Firth of Forth once set their maritime clocks by the daily firing — a tradition dating back to 1861. For more military spectacle, time your visit to coincide with the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo — held at the Castle annually in August. The Tattoo tradition dates back to 1950, and it has grown in size, pomp, and ceremony over the decades. Today, hundreds of kilted pipers, marching bandsmen, and highland dancers take part, and there are few spectacles quite like it! In this video, we take you inside Edinburgh Castle and give you a ringside seat at the Tattoo. It’s hard to describe just how amazing it is to attend this event, but this video will give you a taste of the experience! ★ Did you enjoy this video?
