Livyatan and Megalodon facts, animated size comparison. Livyatan melvillei is an extinct whale with the largest teeth of any known animal. Named after the sea monster Leviathan from mythology, it was an apex predator that lived during the Miocene Period, and went extinct by the early Pliocene about 12.5 million years ago. Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) is a giant extinct shark, the largest known to have existed with the most powerful bite force of any known animal. Both were roughly the same average sizes, 13.5 - 17.5 meters for Livyatan and about 14 - 18 meters for Megalodon. They overlapped in terms of time and region, and possibly even ate each other, with a standard prey of large fish, small whales, sharks, and dolphins. This was made on software I programmed.
