3 Jun 2026 The Rhine Falls (Rheinfall), located in northern Switzerland near the town of Schaffhausen and Neuhausen am Rheinfall, is the most powerful waterfall in Europe. Key Highlights & Features The Scale: The falls span a massive width of 150 meters and drop a height of 23 meters. The Central Rock (Mittelfelsen): For centuries, a massive, towering rock has withstood the immense power of the water right in the middle of the falls. You can take a boat ride directly out to this rock and climb the stairs to a viewing platform positioned right in the center of the roaring currents. Schloss Laufen: Perched directly on a cliff overlooking the rushing waters on the southern bank is Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall. The castle grounds feature an exhibition, a panoramic glass elevator, and a spectacular paved trail (Känzeli view) that brings you incredibly close to the roaring water. Ways to Experience the Falls Boat Tours: Operating from April to October, various color-coded boat lines offer different experiences. These range from a quick crossing between banks to the thrilling yellow line trip to the central rock, or a quiet, scenic basin cruise. Illumination: If you visit in the evening, the waterfall is beautifully illuminated after dark, offering a completely different aesthetic. Smilestones: Located right nearby in Neuhausen...
