In my Dual Language Song Book (ISBN 9781466280540) I say a little about «blatniye» pesni. The quality «blatniye» can be of a very different degree: from light to heavy. These two pieces exemplify about the middle level of that quality. These songs were very popular in 1980s, during the USSR. The singer Alexandr Rozenbaum sings them professionally. (Many others may too). As I mentioned in the book, each song almost always tells a story, a complete episode from someone's life. We listen or sing a song as if we are watching a movie.
