Reload has always felt like its own world to us — not just a collection of songs, but a long drive through different shades of Metallica. The dirt and swagger of “Fuel,” the dark weight of “The Memory Remains,” the wounded honesty of “The Unforgiven II,” the strange shadows of “Where the Wild Things Are,” the dust, blues, tension, and restless pulse running through the whole record.
