He is currently playing with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) Barabanov made his Kontinental Hockey League debut playing with SKA Saint Petersburg during the 2013–14 KHL season. Barabanov has played for the Russian national team in the World Junior Championships and World Championships. He was a member of the Olympic Athletes from Russia team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. On April 7, 2020 Barabanov signed a one-year entry level deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
