In this video, I will show you how to install OpenWRT on the D-Link DIR-842. I am using the hardware version C2 but you can apply this guide on the C1 and C3 version. At the same time, this guide will also work for other D-Link routers which has a Firmware Recovery GUI a.k.a Emergency Web Interface. Please read the instruction carefully, you can brick the router ### First of all, we will need to put the router into the Factory Firmware Recovery mode by pressing the Reset button while turning the router. Once the router is in the recovery mode, the power LED will blink once every second. After that, acess the web GUI to upload the factory.bin firmware. Do not power-cycle (reboot) the router at this time. Once the router is flashed to OpenWRT, we will need to flash the sysupgrade.bin, which can be done via LuCI or SSH.
