Mentos ripped dress (commercial, 1997)

Another one of those really cheesy ads brought to you by Mentos, the freshmaker. A woman stepping out of her car to go to a gala rips her dress. A quick sigh and a refreshing tablet of the freshmaker later she finds the wherewithal to improvise a solution to her potential embarrassment, even earning the admiration of other partygoers. How very fresh and full of life she is. By all accounts, these ads were created to be intentionally cheesy and boy did it work. The ads were very memorable, had a long run (many different ones were made) and became talked about, parodied and became a small portion of pop culture. And the years have not diminished perception of them by much. This 30 second local insert spot aired on FOX on October 27th, 1997, during the premiere of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror VIII.
