David Dunn continues to secretly protect Philadelphia, using the unusual abilities he once barely dared to acknowledge, and together with his son tracks Kevin Wendell Crumb — a man with twenty-four personalities, among whom hides the terrifying and almost invulnerable Beast. Their confrontation brings both men to a psychiatric hospital, where Dr. Ellie Staple tries to convince the patients that their strength, invulnerability, and supernatural nature are only a form of painful delusion.
