2024 MG 5 review: Australia has a new small car bargain! (MG5 aka MG GT)

I didn't have high expectations, but I was blown away by some elements of the new MG 5! This car is one of the cheapest in Australia, with a starting price below $25K drive-away (AUD), and the top-spec turbocharged version (Essence) tested here is less than $29K drive-away. It has some issues -- the turbo engine and DCT could be more refined, and it lacks a lot of the active safety tech that rivals have. But it is surprisingly good car to drive, and has a long warranty that makes it seem like an absolute bargain compared to a Hyundai i30 sedan (Elantra), Mazda 3 sedan, Kia Cerato sedan or any other small sedan.
