NSFW: A Vine Short Film

Last year I made a narrative Vine series with my two good friends Megan Burke and Sydney Gayle. It was written for the app, which in many ways was its own medium. Each vine is no longer than six seconds so we tailored all exposition and plot development to the format. In an app that usually required a punchline in six seconds, we approached our film as an experiment of economy in storytelling and attempted to engage our audience beyond the limitations of Vine. Often what happened in between vines, in the viewers imagination, was just as important as the Vine itself. We never really had any intention of releasing it anywhere but Vine. But with Twitter's decision to discontinue Vine, we felt it was appropriate to repackage it as one film. What results is something different than a short film and different than a Vine series. A bizarre little narrative arc with its own rhythm and pace. I've taken a few liberties here and there to smooth some of the aspects that made it hard to follow outside of Vine (most notably the title cards counting down until when rent is due), but for the most part what you see here is what was featured on Vine. I'm proud of it and I know Sydney and Megan are too. As the title suggests it is Not Safe For Work so be careful before you press play at the office.
