Scapular and glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint) strength/endurance and stability is critical for tennis stroke performance and injury prevention. ? Faulty scapular and shoulder joint positioning may lead to a plethora of shoulder pathologies such as rotator cuff tears/biceps tendinopathy/tears, labrum tears and even neck pain. ? When the scapula position is optimum, it acts as a stable base for the rotator cuff. In the absence of this stable base, the rotator cuff will endure excessive stress and strain and may result in the above pathologies. ? It has been demonstrated that the rotator cuff produces high torque production and EMG activity when the scapula is in optimal position. ? The 90/90 External Rotation exercise is a great way to establish scapular and glenohumeral joint control. Adding a Resistance band to the mix can be utilized for strength and endurance gains!
