How to remove the steering wheel from a MK1 2001 Citroen C5. This C5 has the leather steering wheel which had went all sticky and had what looked like melt marks on the leather. It was horrible to hold while driving. I just show in this video the process of removing the steering wheel, using the kit i used to restore the steering wheel was slow and unpleasant. Also it cost £50, its worth trying if you prefer to do things DIY but i think there are specialists out there who can refurbish steering wheels for the same money. Nonetheless i followed this guide on the french car forum, another C5 owner had the same problem and made this very useful guide: The furniture clinic kit used on the steering wheel is: It is not a kit made specifically for a steering wheel but it had more than enough in the kit to do the wheel. I am not sure what chemical process happens to the leather on the C5 steering wheel for it to go bad but it is a messy process cleaning them up before applying new dye. Dust is a big problem when spraying the top coats that hold in the colour of the leather. Nonetheless the end result i have got from the steering wheel is something that is much nicer to hold and is not too bad to look at. The only issue is the steering wheel is now a different colour to the airbag module. I think i incorrectly ordered the dye but it is worth checking what colour the dye is before starting the job.
