Shimano Altus BR-M315 disc pad replacement (Full)

Today we find out how to replace the pads on a bicycle equipped with Shimano disc brakes. This is the longer video with a bit of humour and some outtakes. I also made a short video with the bare basics in it. Shimano are a sensible compnay and most of their brake calipers take the same type of pads. These pads vary in price and composition, with different materials suiting different purposes. My pads were trashed due to contact with the hydraulic fluid that Shimano uses. The fluid is mineral oil rather than DOT4, and as such is extremely damaging to sintered pads which become saturated with oil and stop working as a friction medium. I achieved some sucess with a 50/50 mixture of toothpaste and washing up liquid but ultimatly new pads on a clean disc are the only solution. Music is «Terra Titanic» by Peter Schilling, from 1984. PS, I really did brake my left Clavicle as shown in this video, but it was by falling over on what was essentially a childrens ski slope. One week after spending a week in Austria proper-skiing without incident...
