Normal regeneration of diesel particulate filter DPF recorded in Volvo (5x timelapse) 00:00 Intro 00:25 Cold engine below 68°C 02:03 DPF regen Volvo V70 5-cylinder D3 2012 automatic transmission Car Scanner Pro ELM OBD2 app Android/iPhone iCar2 Vgate adapter When coolant reached 70°C, the DPF active regeneration started at 25.55 g, ended at 5.72 g. DPF regeneration in D3 5-cylinder engine usually takes 25-30 minutes. It takes long time, way too long! DPF regen will not start if: - engine is cold, coolant below 67-70°C - you have engine-related error codes - fuel level is very low (but regen started even with "low fuel" warning in my car) Attention: - Car Scanner app cannot initiate "forced" or "service" regeneration of DPF filter in Volvo. In Volvo diesels the normal DPF regeneration - while driving - starts when amount of soot in the DPF filter exceeds certain threshold, approx. 18g - 25g - 28g (depending on engine). Once observed, It will always start at exactly the same threshold in your car. DPF regen will not start at lower soot level even if you drive very fast on highway, or keep engine at higher rpm in lower gear. Simply driving on highway will not empty your DPF filter. However on highway soot might accumulate at a lower rate, remains stable or may even slowly decrease (1-2g per each 100 km, depending on engine): In VEA engines the threshold is cca. 18 gram, and they have much quicker passive regen at high speed. Additionally, in Volvo VEA 4-cylinder...
