My Favorite Omsk Artist: Stabnov

ОМСК February 23 brought a day of free tickets for men to the biggest art museums in Omsk, and so, although I&been to the Siberian Exhibition before, I walked through again, especially to see once more the monumental work by Gennady Arsentievich Shtabnov (1927–1989), who was a Soviet artist, a representative of the sixties generation, and who spent a significant part of his life and career in Omsk. He was shaped during the development of the new Soviet art of the 1950s to 1980s, which was characterized by the search for new expressive means and the reinterpretation of artistic traditions within the framework of social realism. His works can be spotted by the strength and power of expression. "The Land of Men" is a programmatic work by the artist, which reveals the peculiarities of his creative vision and temperament. Stabnov was characterized by a desire for active perception of nature. He returned to the image of "The Land of Men" several times. According to the author&intention, the vast and majestic Siberian landscape has a comprehensive meaning. The northern motif takes on a planetary and epic scale. In this work, "nature appears as an independent world, a world that is spiritualized, endowed with special activity, mysterious power, grandeur, and beauty." G. A.
