2002 Toyota Rav4 replacing a thermostat

The best way to replace the thermostat on 2nd generation Toyota Rav4 is to first remove the serpentine belt and remove the alternator. Next use a very short 10mm wrench to get the bottom nut out. You can also bend a regular small wrench to 45 degrees for easier access to the bottom bolt. Next to easily be able to remove the thermostat housing is to first remove the upper hose from the housing otherwise there is no way for the housing to clear the housing studs.
