A little off the regular tourist trail in the village of Misasa, Tottori, it serves as a living museum, preserving a rich barbershop history and culture for future generations. Owner and 3rd generation barber, Kajikawa-san, is a bit of a kindred spirit! He has traveled all over Japan visiting old barbershops, photographing and documenting some of the stories of the shop owners as so many were permanently closing in the 80s and 90s with no successor. “We always developed our economy by throwing old things away and searching for new things. As a result, cities became superficial places. I think it is a good thing to have modern shops, but it is also good to have shops rich in history.” -Mitsuru Kajikawa Kajikawa-san grew up in and around this very same barbershop that his grandfather opened in 1917 before passing it down to his father.
