This is a Rolex Milgauss 116400 Review Hey everyone, welcome back to the Rolex review series, presented by Bob’s Watches. Today I’m back to talk about the Rolex reference 116400GV, the modern Milgauss. Now, as you may know, the Milgauss was originally developed for engineers and scientists working in areas of high magnetism. Magnetism is brutal for a mechanical watch, and these professionals needed one that could withstand this high magnetic fields they routinely encountered in their work. The Milgauss is the result. Case The 40 by 13 millimeter Oystersteel case has some slightly different proportions, due to the magnetic shield it contains, which protects the movement from magnetic fields. The smooth bezel is wider than you might expect, but the lug to lug dimension is still only 48 millimeters, keeping the whole watch a nice size for the wrist. Dial The most interesting feature is the orange lightning bolt second hand. It’s been a Milgauss staple for decades. The hour and minute hands are standard Rolex hands. The hour markers from one o’clock to the eleven o’clock positions are baton, almost fatboy style, filled with lume. Lume The lume in the hour markers is Superluminova (replaced with Chromalight on the most recently produced watches) – orange (glowing blue) in the markers at three, six, and nine, and white (glowing green) on the balance of the markers.
