&Willy&by The Sweet was the band&5th hit single. On the first 5 hit singles The Sweet didn&actually play their instruments, but just did the vocals and backing vocals, and the instruments were played by session musicians. On &Willy&Pip Williams was on guitar, John Roberts on bass, and Phil Wainham on drums. The band played their own instruments on all their B-sides and on all hit singles from &Bam&onwards. In 1972 &Willy&reached number 4 in the UK singles chart, number 3 in the USA, number 2 in Finland and Switzerland, and number one in Canada, Denmark and Germany. Sadly The Sweet&lead vocalist Brian Connolly died in 1997, drummer Mick Tucker died in 2002, and bassist Steve Priest died in 2020, but lead guitarist Andy Scott has kept the band going, and here he is performing &Willy&in 2018 with Peter Lincoln on lead vocals and bass, Tony O&on guitar, and Bruce Bisland on drums.
