In addition to crocodiles, leopards also represent a significant threat to young gorillas, females and cubs that can be attacked by surprise. But in nature, attacks like this are extremely rare. Crocodiles and gorillas generally live in different areas — the former preferring wide rivers and open banks, and the latter inhabiting dense forests. Even so, accidental encounters can happen, especially when gorillas descend to the river to drink water or cross swampy areas.
