The Rubber Chicken Flute Quartet plays «The Entertainer». This Scott Joplin rag was not a popular one when it was published in 1902, and remained obscure until it reached on the Billboard charts in 1974 after parts of it were used as the title music to a feature film, «The Sting». «The Entertainer» was a nickname printed on Scott Joplin's business cards. In the first strain, you can hear a motif that represents the telling of a joke, followed by laughter. Then the end of the strain represents a musical exit to thunderous applause. The Rubber Chickens consist of Cathy Hutchings, Mary Preston, Julia Riley, and Lori Weaver. They are joined here by Tom Brier on piano. Recorded Saturday, 24 May 2008 in Sacramento, California.
