БОРИС РЫЖИЙ «ЭМАЛИРОВАННОЕ СУДНО...» A few words about the translation of СУДНО as «vessel» instead «bedpan»: Actually, «vessel» is a word of more general meaning, so a bedpan is also a vessel. In fuct, we have preferred «vessel» to «bedpan» so as to express our point of view and our feeling while interpreting this poem. In our opinion, the poem is not of literal sense. So it does not refer to someone who is necessarily ill. The meaning is broader and it covers the illness of a whole society. Furthermore, while using the word «vessel», which usually refers to a ship, one could perceive that this poem is for the desire of being alive, despite the fact that Ryzhy did not manage to overcome his despair. «Эмалированное судно, окошко, тумбочка, кровать, жить тяжело и неуютно, зато уютно умирать. Лежу и думаю: едва ли вот этой белой простынёй того вчера не укрывали кто нынче вышел в мир иной. И тихо капает из крана. И жизнь, растрёпана, как блядь, выходит как бы из тумана и видит: тумбочка, кровать... И я пытаюсь приподняться, хочу в глаза ей поглядеть.
