1961 - 1963. Comparison of ADC&first cartridges: The original ADC-1 vs. The MK II. Although visually identical, the MK II version is completely redesigned. The MK II has different coils, different output generator, improved shielding, heavier weight, and a stylus assembly with higher compliance and smaller stylus shape. The stylus is the smallest in the industry that was claimed to trace the record groove modulations with more accuracy resulting in greater clarity and detail. However, the small radius is also prone to "bottoming": Hitting the bottom of the groove causing a grinding sound. A year later, ADC abandoned the moving magnet design and focused on the induced magnet principle for their cartridges.
