CUMMINS B3.3 - FUEL SYSTEM BLEEDING. How To Remove Trapped Air. Manual air bleeding is needed if: The fuel filter is not filled prior to installation. The injection pump is replaced. High-pressure fuel line connections are loosened or lines replaced. Initial engine start-up or start-up after an extended period of no engine operation. The vehicle fuel tank has run empty. The low pressure fuel lines are bled by pumping the hand pump lever on the filter head. The high pressure fuel line venting is accomplished by loosing one or more fittings at the injectors and cranking the engine to allow entrapped air to bleed from the lines.
