Kenwood TS-50 Repairs for Steve in QLD (RX + TX demo via SDR)

This neat little Kenwood TS-50 from Steve in Queensland had come in for some repairs. With a dead receive and blown back light lamps, Q50 a 2SC2954 on the RX_TX board was replaced and new blue LED&replaced for the LCD display. One of the “vias” running from one side of the PCB to the reverse side had corroded and impaired power supply to a pair of the LCD display lights, so a fresh piece of wire was inserted and solid solder connections re-established for the supply line. Front dial shafts for RIT, IF shift, Squelch, Volume and VFO have been re-lubricated. Chassis cases and screws have been spray cleaned with anti rust. Also C1 SMD electrolytic cap has been replaced with a tantalum capacitor, the original capacitor had begun to leak and cause corrosion.
