"Fair Play – True On-chain Randomness for Blockchain Gaming" – Rafael Hoekstra, PhD

The randomness used everyday in traditional games is simply not available in crypto-based games as the blockchain is deterministic. While pseudo-randomness has worked up to a point, this breaks down and cannot be trusted when real money is on the table. Verified Open Randomness (VOR) offers a solution to this, by providing provably fair on-chain randomness via an open API. Applications we are exploring & building out with clients include lotteries, generative NFTs, & crypto-based games. To advance a new epoch in crypto games, we need truly new innovations. Simple jpg images have provided proof-of-concepts for NFTs, but to truly come into their own & flourish, we need to explore truly innovative technologies. On-chain randomness and ‘Russian Doll’ NFT structures provide two examples of what is possible and where the future lies.
