Or call 1300 687288 P0089 Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance is a generic diagnostic trouble code (DTC) that can apply to both petrol and diesel engines with a common rail injection system, as they operate on a similar concept. This video and TechTalk article is based on trade feedback we have received on how to diagnose the root cause of this code by eliminating some of the commonly overlooked and cheap-to-fix problem areas before committing to replacing expensive parts. P0089 is triggered when the ECM calculates the required amount of fuel pressure for the engine and commands the Fuel Metering Valve (FMV), (which can also be known as the Suction Control Valve (SCV) depending on the system) to increase or decrease the amount of fuel that enters the high-pressure pump which impacts the fuel pressure. The pump then produces this desired pressure which is confirmed by the pressure reading produced by the Fuel Pressure Sensor (FPS), which is sent back to the ECM so it can confirm that the actual fuel pressure matches its desired fuel pressure. If it doesn’t, then various DTCs can be set. The FPS and the FMV / SCV are what regulate the fuel pressure. Depending on the vehicle manufacturer, P0089 can have multiple descriptions. Other common codes which could be presented with P0089 are as follows. P0087: Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too Low P0088: Fuel Rail/System Pressure Too High P0093- Fuel Leaks in High-Pressure Area You should check for the presence of air bubbles in...
