Yo Soy Maria

Here is my first video for 2021, Yo soy Maria! by Astor Piazzolla. This song introduces the main character in Piazzolla’s 1968 “operita,” Maria de Buenos Aires. I’ve always loved Piazzolla’s music and this song in particular. Since it is little known in America, I decided to arrange it for New Quartet and they burn it up, as usual. With James Sanders, violin, Michael Levin, soprano saxophone, Doug Lofstrom, bass and Leandro Lopez Varady, piano. Special thanks to Columbia College for supporting the creation of this video.
