No talking, RAW tones only! The MARMITE of the pedal world shall finally get its own FAQ section to dispel some of the myths out there: 1. How do you run a Boss MT2 into the fx loop? You don&really run it into the fx loop. You don&run it like a delay effect between the amp&SEND and RETURN. In reality, you will plug the pedal&output into the fx loop RETURN. The reason for this is to bypass the amp&own preamp section and connect the pedal straight to a tube power amp. 2. Is a Boss MT2 a preamp pedal? A preamp is basically any pedal (or device) which converts your signal from high impedance (~10kΩ) instrument level (-20dB) to low impedance (~1kΩ) line level (from -10dB to +4dB). Which means just about ANY AND ALL pedals (with the exception of some fuzzes). So yes, a Boss MT2 is a preamp pedal. And so is a tube screamer. Or a Klon. Or a delay. And so on and so forth. 3. Why run a Boss MT2 into the fx loop RETURN (power amp)? Some people believe that running a preamp into a preamp is "wrong". By this definition, your tube screamer should never go in front of an amp, which is pure and simply ridiculous. So then why bypass the preamp section of your amp? Short answer: you don&have to. Long answer: if for some reason you want the maximum amount of headroom for your high gain distortion pedal (not necessarily a good thing, as distortions can sound AMAZING into dirty amps), you might get more headroom by running straight into the power amp. But it&all completely and utterly...
