BASSO CONTINUO EXPLAINED: A GUIDE TO FIGURED BASS SYMBOLS / This video is for you if you’re looking for some basso continuo examples or need help making sense of some basso continuo figures (also called figured bass symbols)! I go through all the frequently occurring basso continuo figures that don’t show all the notes you need to play and explain the possibilities for realizing each one. Each figure is accompanied by real musical examples (scores included!) that show the figure in action! Examples come from the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, Louis-Nicolas Clérambault, Arcangelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Jean-François Dandrieu, Antoine Forqueray, and George Frideric Handel. I also have a figured bass symbols chart PDF (see below), which is more in-depth. __________ RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS VIDEO: __________ 0:00 Intro 0:41 Basso Continuo Figure: no figures 0:49 Basso Continuo Figure: accidental alone 1:01 Basso Continuo Figure: flat alone 1:14 Basso Continuo Figure: sharp alone 1:47 Basso Continuo Figure: 5 with a slash/line through it 2:13 Basso Continuo Figure: 5 alone, 6 alone, and 7 alone 2:33 Basso Continuo Figure: 4 with a sharp or 4 with a slash/line through it 2:48 Basso Continuo Figure: 2 with a sharp or 2 with a slash/line through it 3:01 Basso Continuo Figure: 4 alone 3:14 Basso Continuo Figure: 2 alone 3:25 Basso Continuo Figure: 4/2 ("four two") 3:37 Basso Continuo Figure: 6 with a sharp or 6 with...
