Sure, you can record on your phone but who wants to tie up their phone for hours at a time. This is one of the smallest dictaphones that Sony makes which makes it a perfect choice for videographers. Slip one of these in e.g. a jacket pocket at a wedding and you&unobtrusively be able to get audio recorded closer than you maybe otherwise could.
