Experimenting with crossing magoi female (12 kg of weight, size over 65 cm) with several Momotaro kohaku males. Almost all the progeny took mother&genes. However, you can see several that I selected which have red colour on them. They behave completely different to the normal koi tosai. They are a lot faster, snapping the food from the top of the water like crazy. I hope that will change when they grow bigger. The idea is to grow for several years, select a few best females and then cross again with kohaku. Then I guess I will have 3:1 ratio of magoi hybrids. Then again I will select some best kohaku from there and breed with them when they are ready to. So another 6-7 years to go. So, this way I will add some native carp blood (but it¬ a domestic, but wild one which was caught in Dnipro river) to nishikigoi and will increase their resistance to withstand colder winters. ‪‪‪#experiment‬
