This video explains the structure and working principle of joule thief circuit. Online circuit simulator has been used to create the simulation of Joule thief. In this video you will understand the construction and working of the joule thief circuit. Waveform of the joule thief circuit has been shown here. This is a falstad circuit. Falstad online circuit simulator has been used in this video. A joule thief can use nearly all of the energy in a single cell electric battery, even far below the voltage where other circuits consider the battery fully discharged or dead. Therefore it is known as the Joule thief. Joule thief circuit is also known by other names like - joule ringer, blocking oscillator or vampire torch. Joule thief is a minimalist self oscillating voltage booster which is low cost, small and easy to build. Joule thief is typically used for driving small loads. The output voltage is increased at the expense of higher current draw on the input, but the average (integrated) current of the output is lowered and brightness of a luminescence decreased.
