Artur Gold (1897-1943), a pre-war Polish violinist and musician of Jewish origin. Brother of the famous Henryk Gold. Composed, played, conducted and arranged light music for his famous ensembles - in cabarets, theatres, on stage, radio and on numerous records. Author of many popular Polish hits. After the German and Soviet invasion on Poland in September 1939, he was forced into the newly erected Warsaw Ghetto in which he played with an orchestra. Deported by the Germans with thousands of fellow inmates who boarded Holocaust trains, destined for gas chambers of the German Treblinka extermination camp. He played there for the Nazis in their casino. Murdered in Treblinka by the German occupant in 1943 (wikipedia). The presented melody seems to be Artur Gold’s last composition in tango meter from the ‘golden years’ of his pre-war period of activity. It is exclusively and solely his music and – with lyrics by Andrzej Włast - was first publicly presented by Ina Benita in the theatre Ali Baba, Warszawa, Spring 1939. Subsequently appeared on records, both on Syrena and Odeon which also seem to be among the last ever made before the war. Played on Kawai by the author of the channel. Recorded Katowice, Febr. 2016.
