It is great experience to get hands on top-of-the-line craftsmanship. This Star kit is the best line Tama offers and you can feel it in the details. The shells feel like (and look like) Croviotto drums. The edges have the chunk of a steam bent shell from the reinforcement rings, and these drums are very articulate like a solid shell. Tama has been making significant improvements to drum hardware for years. With the many hits and misses that come with innovation I believe the quick release system for mounting toms and floor tom legs was a miss. I really want to like it, but it just does not feel sturdy on floor toms and the lock switch is never secure. Anytime I&set up a Starclassic or Star set that has this hardware its inevitable that one floor tom leg is not properly locked and the leg falls off right when I don&need it to.. Also the rubber gasket has too much play giving wobble that just isn&for me. Tama makes wonderfully sturdy hardware, but these parts mentioned don&live up to the quality I expect on flagship, or top-of-the-line gear. The wood combination on this Star kit is smooth sounding.. so smooth. The attack is wonderfully blended with the resonance of the drum to give you perfect balance. I also found that you can stand right next to this kit and it never feels harsh on your ears when played. The rack tom and first floor tom are the most perfectly paired drums on this whole kit. The two drums compliment each other in a rare way you only find on high quality...
