Edo,Ondo Guber: INEC Raises Concern On Escalating Violence, Launches Website To Monitor Poll Result

The Independent National Electoral Commission has expressed concern over the escalating levels of violent actions by political parties, candidates and their supporters in the run up of the Edo,Ondo Governorship elections. In a signed statement by the National commissioner and chairman, information and Voter Education Committee, Bar Festus Okoye,the commission reminded the political stakeholders in both States that there are extant laws and regulations that they must adhere to during campaigns. He warned that they must on no account underestimate the resolve of the commission to enforce the rules and regulations and apply appropriate sanctions against those who choose to break them. The statement added that the political parties should realise that the forthcoming Governorship elections are taking place at a time of a global pandemic and the commission is working hard to comply with all health and safety protocols insisting that the people of the affected states must be saved from the added burden of violent elections. The commission however reinstated it&commitment to conduct peaceful election in the two states and the outstanding National and state Assembly bye elections. Meanwhile, INEC has introduced a real time Portal for Nigerians to view and monitor results from polling units even before they are collated.
