I trained with Shiva Rea and love the way she approaches yoga, as a full-spectrum creative experience where movement and breath dance together to create alignment from within. This is a simple seated exploration I like to do when my upper back and shoulders feel tight. There is no specific movement, or order of movements. I start my sitting and tuning into breath, and then seeing where that takes me. In my experience, practicing like this helps me to let go and surrender to the guidance of Prana, or life force. I experience Prana as an active living intelligence within that guides my movements. Watching this particular exploration was useful for me because I was able to see that I&got an unconscious holding pattern on the one side of my body. I¬ sitting square and one shoulder is raised. Often, we are &in our body, rather than &in our body. Movement based asana helps us to find the flow and let go of the holding. Of course, it also helps to have a teacher, mirror, or video so this can be pointed out/seen! Now I&got something to be mindful of when practicing like this - tuning into and making sure I&releasing any holding on that one side. Music: Free in Your Love (Purna) - by Steve Gold
