Here is a compilation of quintessential American-built logging railroad steam locomotives. When I think of engines for logging railways, I think of three engine types: Shay, Climax and Heisler. All three engines are designed to be slow but durable on sharp radius curves and have a tremendous tractive effort for heavy trains on, typically, mountainous track. Featured prominently is the Cass Scenic Railroad in Wester Virginia; a perfect setting for a logging rail operation. Hope you enjoy!
