Eddie Calvert "Mystery Street" (flip side of "Oh, Mein Papa") Albert Edward "Eddie" Calvert was born on March 15, 1922. He died on August 7, 1978. He was an English trumpeter who enjoyed success in the 1950s. Calvert was born in Preston, Lancashire, England. In 1978, Calvert collapsed and died of a heart attack in the bathroom of his home in Rivonia, Johannesburg, South Africa. He was 56 years old. Calvert came to hate "Oh, Mein Papa"--the tune that brought him fame. He grew sick of it, yet audiences wanted to hear it. "Hearing it is like having a six inch nail jammed through my head," he said.
