How it Works: Black+Decker 20V Cordless String Weed Trimmer Edger LSTE525. Black & Decker has a beautiful design--but also very tricky! You might think the "Feed Line" button is connected to the spool somehow, but not so! All that button does is brake the motor! See for yourself: Next time you try the "Feed Line" button, notice how the motor suddenly stops. How can this be? Well, it is an incredibly clever, but simple design. Take off the spool and look inside. You can see a small rotating part with a locking pin sticking up a bit. When the housing suddenly stops, the inner spool, having momentum, keeps rotating a bit, causing that little mechanism to pivot. When it pivots, it unlocks the spool briefly. Look at the back of the spool. Notice the funny "whirl" pattern? When that little part pivots, it moves the locking pin towards the edge of the spool, which allows the spool to turn a short ways, releasing 3/4" of line. Then, the mechanism pivots back to it&original location, re-locking the spool once more. If you have trouble feeding line, remove the spool and look carefully at the pivot mechanism. Make sure it is not obstructed with any debris. Of course, be sure the line is not tangled as well. Also make sure you have the line spooled in the correct direction, as shown by the arrow on the spool. If you wind the line on the spool the wrong way, the line will come out on its own.
